Eighth graders have been working on grammar, writing, journal writing, and vocabulary this quarter. If you have time please visit the third floor to read the poems our students have written. Reading the poems is well worth the trip up three flights of stairs.
We are still working on several other skills that students will need to learn before high school. Organization skills are a must for success. Students who use their agenda planner tend to complete the correct homework assignment accurately and on time. Also, students can find their completed homework when they are organized. Other skills students need to obtain are listening and following directions. Many assignments are incorrectly done because they lack these vital skills. Our entire district is working on building good character skills and modifying inappropriate behavior. These skills are needed to be successful in the future. So far, our BIST program seems to be working to curb students’ poor behavior choices.
Retaining information that is taught is sometimes difficult for some students. To assist all students in their language learning process, we do numerous “up and out of their seat activities”. These activities are meant to “cement” new concepts into their minds.
Students, teachers, parents, and administrators working together can make a difference in a student’s life. If you ever need further information about class work, please contact a teacher at school so the matter can be taken care of in a timely fashion. Good communication between home and school is also a vital component of the educational success. Here’s to a fabulous year at Lexington Middle School.
