Reyna Munoz Is Nebraska Para-Educator of the Year!
October 09, 2007
Ms. Reyna Munoz has been awarded the Nebraska Paraeducator of the Year Award. Reyna has worked at the Lexington Middle School for the past 5 years. She is a graduate of the Lexington Public School system and began her education in the ELL program after immigrating to the United States from Mexico. Her past experiences as an English Language Learner has made her an invaluable part of our ELL program. She truly understands what it takes to learn a second language and be successful.
In addition to her valuable role in the classroom, Reyna serves as an interpreter for parent and IEP meetings and makes phone calls to Spanish speaking parents.
Reyna also fills two other important roles for LMS. She works as the office secretary from 3:15 until 5:00 every afternoon. She is our main source of communication with Spanish speaking parents after school. Parents feel comfortable entering our building because they know they will encounter a friendly face that they can communicate with and who will help them to solve problems.
LMS also operates a TeamMates Mentoring Program and Reyna serves as not only a mentor, but assistant coordinator for the TeamMates of Lexington organization. She has attended trainings in San Diego, Austin, TX. and Chicago. Additionally, she attends trainings around the state of Nebraska. Reyna is our bi-lingual mentor trainer in the Dawson County area.
Reyna Munoz is a very special person to the hundreds of students she has worked with over the years. She is invaluable to her teachers and administrators. We value Reyna not only for the skills she brings to her job, but the humor, insight and passion she walks in the door with every morning.
