8th Liberty: Mrs. Fricke

Students Involved in Red Cross Day March 28, 2009

by Lisa Fricke

March 17, 2009

Mrs. Fricke's Homeroom students are coloring posters that will advertise Lexington's first Red Cross Day, Saturday, March 28, 2009.  Kay Grinde from the Red Cross has visited the homeroom students several times explaining what the Red Cross does for communities, and she also handed out flyers about fire safety tips that students shared with their families.  Students will help with the carnival, face painting, free babysitting, and the blood mobile.
Red Cross Day will be March 28 between 9:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.. This special day is set aside to celebrate and to donate to the Red Cross in honor of all that they do for the Lexington Community. Various activities are scheduled throughout the day. The Red Cross Blood mobile will be set up at the Presbyterian Church. Volunteers will have a carnival for elementary students, face painting, and a free babysitting service that will be provided from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Parents need to present a local business receipt when they pick up their children or fee will be charged. Volunteers will also pump gas and wash windshields for a donation to the Red Cross, and a church group may have a sandwich and dessert luncheon with a portion of the proceeds going to the Red Cross. Other locations TBA next week.
Community members are encouraged to take advantage of the free babysitting so they may shop in peace at area businesses.  We need more volunteers to donate blood that day, and to donate inexpensive prizes for the Kids’ carnival. If any group or association would like to create another activity/event for that day, please contact Kay Grinde, Unit Manager Dawson/Gosper County Red Cross 784-4343 dcredcrs@cozadtel.net
Area Businesses who have donated so far:
Barmore Drug Kid’s Fashion
Twin Fashion La Hacienda

Fredy’s Unique Hairtique
Walmart
Any other businesses that would like to contribute, please contact Kay Grinde.
